"Olympic flame" burns again in Bethel
On 3 June 2023, the time has come again: the Bethel "Olympic flame" will be lit in the Gadderbaum sports park - in front of several hundred other athletes. From judo to swimming, the athletes can once again compete in ten different sports. People with severe disabilities can take part in the numerous non-competitive events - including darts for the first time.
The inclusive sports festival for people with and without disabilities is once again being organised with many partners - including the NRW Disabled and Rehabilitation Sports Association, the German Football Association and DSC Arminia Bielefeld. And as always, Bielefeld schools, sports students and many volunteers are supporting the sports festival.
Many visitors took advantage of Bethel athletics to have a free personal health check in the tent of the Bethel athletics health campus team. This includes, for example, an eye test, a fitness test and blood pressure and blood sugar measurements. The extended sporting activities on offer will once again include the traditional "fun run for all" over five kilometres and the tandem run over just under two kilometres. In the tandem run, runners with disabilities are accompanied by a runner without a disability.
The main venue for the 26th Bethel athletics with a colourful supporting programme is the Gadderbaum sports park. The swimming competitions will take place in the "Aquawede" indoor swimming pool. Friends of equestrian sports will meet at the Therapeutic Riding Centre.
