People with disabilities
At the heart of society rather than on the outside
Bethel offers support and assistance in several federal states so that people with disabilities can participate in everyday social life and lead as self-determined a life as possible. The spectrum ranges from independent living – with outpatient support if necessary – to shared flats.
People are monitored where they live and supported in their living environment. These residential facilities are located in the heart of established communities and neighbourhoods: Particular attention is paid to ensuring that shops, doctors' surgeries and bus stops are within easy reach, so that there are plenty of places to meet other people.
This makes it possible for people with disabilities to live a life that is largely shaped by normality and independence. At the same time, their nursing, medical and psychotherapeutic care has also always been part of Bethel's core mission.
Great joy and success with therapeutic riding at Bethel
Ute Knebel's upper body rises and falls in sync with the calm rhythm of the horse's stride. The severely disabled woman straightens up more and more. With every lap around the riding arena, the 55-year-old's facial features relax. She smiles. "Mrs Knebel loves riding and horses," says Renate Brinner, equine therapist at the Bethel Therapeutic Riding Centre.
Ute Knebel comes alive on the back of Servus. The horse's movements are transferred directly to her body. "She has to react to it. And that's a good thing," says Renate Brinner with a smile. It is important for Ute Knebel to be active, as she spends many hours in her wheelchair. "She finds the centre of her body when riding. That's a great success!"
Equine therapy particularly helps people with complex disabilities. It improves their body awareness and sense of balance, strengthens their muscles and relieves tension.
Your support for people with disabilities
Bethel is asking for your support so that people with disabilities can continue to be supported, accompanied and cared for in the best possible way.
Thank you very much!
